Do I Need a Root Canal?

Root canals are performed to remove a portion of an infected tooth so that it is not
necessary to remove the entire tooth. Your dentist may recommend a root
canal in Belmont if you have a large cavity that can’t be treated
with a filling.

During a root canal, your dentist will create an opening on top of your
numbed tooth to remove infected dental pulp, nerve tissue, and bacteria
from the canals in your teeth. The infected pulp is thoroughly removed
using a series of files. Next, a permanent or temporary filling, depending
on your needs, is placed in the tooth in the areas that were treated.
Finally, a crown will be placed over your tooth, to rebuild it to its
normal size and make it blend in with the rest of your mouth. Getting
a root canal allows you to keep a tooth that might otherwise need to be
removed and replaced with a dental implant.
